ExtractNow

ExtractNow could use a bit of sprucing up. The dead-simple and cheetah-quick installation brings you to an expanse of white that sits on top of four buttons. That's it. It's not an interface that sells the feature set, but it's the feature set that users will be most interested in.

The program should appeal to users who handle a high volume of archives, because all it does is extract archive contents. The four buttons--Settings, History, Clear, and Extract--lay out the basics. Click Settings and a window pops up to entice you with options. From the boilerplate specials like Always on Top or Start with Windows to more detailed customizations such as delineating a default extraction directory, setting file extensions to ignore, and adjusting post-extraction behavior, ExtractNow gives users as much flexibility as possible when it comes to batch archive extractions. You can, for instance, set it to delete archives after their files have been extracted.

It is not an archiver, though, and won't be able to replace your favorite archiver. But if you're more about receiving than giving when it comes to ZIPs, RARs, and TARs, ExtractNow can save you a massive amount of time.

ExtractNow allows you to extract more than one archive at a time. It has a simple and intuitive user interface for batch archive extractions. With just one click of a button multiple archives are extracted quicker and easier.

ExtractNow supports encrypted archives as well. In addition, you can use password lists to iterate through a list of passwords to find the one that works right for your encrypted archive.

ExtractNow supports advanced shell integration with Windows Explorer through the user of file type associates and context menus. It supports most major archive formats including: zip (+jar,xpi), bzip2 (+bz2,tbz2,tbz), rar, arj, z, lzh (+lha), 7z, cab, nsis, lzma, lzma86, xz (+txz), ppmd, udf, xar, mub, hfs, dmg, compound (+msi,doc,xls,ppt), wim (+swm), iso, chm (+chm,chi,chq,chw,hxs,hxi,hxr,hxq,hxw,lit), split (+001), rpm, deb, cpio, tar, gzip (+gz,gzip,tgz,tpz), mslz, flv, swf, ntfs (+ntfs,img), fat (+fat,img), mbr, vhd, pe, elf, apm, macho, ace, and sit.

Been using this for years, if you're like me, and download a LOT of rar and zip files, this little bit o' code is essential. The fact that it's not higher rated on CNET is an eyebrow raising question on this site's rating system.

"Especially helpful extracting multiple archives"

Pros

This handy utility is especially helpful when extracting batches of files. Sometimes my clients break up their source files into multiple archives and ExtractNow unarchives all the files at once. And quickly.

Clean and simple interface
Fast
Does what it promises

Cons

Not a "con" exactly, but be careful that you set -- or at least know -- your destination directory. Until I got used to the program I sometimes unzipped to locations I didn't intend.

"absolute crapware"

none - didn't extract anything

Cons

Despite deselecting the installation of INCREDIBAR during the installation it did. After the installation it did not extract an Acefile. It's just like the User above said: should be removed from CNET immediately

"Changed Search Page and Closed Windows After Install"

I had Google Chrome running while installing this. As soon as I clicked finish, it killed Chrome (leaving child processes running) and then proceeded to launch IE (not my default browser) and take me to some "instabar" site. Low and behold, after opening up chrome, the new default search engine is now "instabar".

I remember cnet offered shady software in the past but this is right back to the days of "Gator" which inevitably lead to spyware, hijacks and malware. This program should be removed from their site immediately until a further review is done.

"easy install great product"

Pros

easy install and uninstall updates that are worth doing automatic extracting works well lots of settings that can be used makes dealin with rars alot quicker and easyer

on some rare occasions ive lost some settings but its probly my fault lol ?

"Quick, light and easy to use"

There's nothing wrong with this little but very effective program.

Summary

I have used Winrar (always ignored the pay now pop-up) for over 10 years, and i've now found a better unpacker.
Have almost nothing to say because ExtractNow is just so light and easy to use that i just love it with all my heart.
The layout is small, basic and therefore very user-friendly.
Through settings you can customize ExtractNow to your own liking.
There's a lot of options like Post Extraction, Password function etc.
You also have the option to extract archives to a certain directory folder that you can use as the standard directory.
Or just enable auto extracting for the files to extract in the same directory as the archive.
Like i mentioned before, the basic, but that's all you need.

Pros

I use this program every day though and it is usually lightning fast. Opens quickly and extracts just as quickly. I don't think it's ever crashed though it can slow down a tad on huge files.

none really, unless you want to create rars
