Contrary to popular belief, diaries aren't just for teenage girls. Keeping a diary--or journal, if you prefer--is a great way to keep track not only of your most private thoughts, but also of work activities, food logs, travel, and much more. Efficient Diary Portable is a feature-packed program that lets users create custom diary entries and take them along on a portable device--all with password protection, of course.

The program's interface is sleek and attractive, and we had no trouble getting around. A tree hierarchy on the left lets you access entries from the current day, current month, current year, last seven days, last 30 days, or a particular year. Entries can also be assigned to different groups, making it easy to organize around specific themes. We liked the actual diary entry interface a lot; it contains lots of word processing features such as text formatting and the option to insert images and attach documents. A drop-down menu lets you quickly make note of your mood or the current weather. A powerful search feature helps find entries based on their title or content.

The program comes with a built-in Help file but we couldn't get any of its contents to load; this wasn't a serious problem, as everything about the program is easy to figure out. Overall, we liked Efficient Diary Portable a lot, and we think it's a great choice for both personal and professional use.

Efficient Diary Portable comes as a ZIP file. It's accessible after extraction with no need for installation.

With its unique and powerful flash full-text search technique, you can simply enter a word in the diary to quickly find the corresponding entries. The product has a strong edit function similar to that of Microsoft Word. You can insert various items such as tables, pictures, emotions, URLs or even attachments. You can set the background color, background picture of each diary entry separately so your diary can be rich and colorful. The login password is encrypted by the irreversible algorithm of SHA; besides, the content of the file itself is encrypted so that your private information is fully protected. Except for managing diary entries by date, you can also manage it by hierarchical grouping. There is a Recycle Bin in the software so you do not need to worry that you may delete a diary entry by mistake. It also provides various unique features such as you can specify a weather icon and an emotion icon for each diary entry, can specify importance for diary entries, and can copy and paste diary entries.

"good program"

Pros

It works perfectly. I use as a notes organizer - just set it to 'group view' instead of 'date view' and I'm good to go. I'm able to make folders for notes, subfolders too.

I'm using it on Windows 7.

Cons

none really.

Summary

Once every rare ocassion a small window comes up when you first open the program which says there's a pay for version.

I don't mind it since the program is really good and I'm keeping it since it's not worth throwing it away for such a rare occurence.
