"Don't donte!!"

May 6, 2013  |   By Lkg4DiaryApp

Version: Backuplist+ 8.2.1

Pros

Works great backs up as a free app

Cons

If you donate to it then it s=asks for a password to do backups and causes random computer crashes. I finally had to remove it. It would work for a while then cause problems again. I resorted to writing rsync commands in automator. Not as pretty but much more effective

Summary

This is an amazing app as long as you don't give them any money

"Perfectly simple and effective"

Version: Backuplist+ 7.2.1

Pros

A pefectly simple GUI interface for rsync. Here are the files / directories I want backed up and here is where I want them to go....run.

Cons

In the advanced options sections, it would be awesome to see the options available and maybe a mouse-over explanation of what they do.... this is not a complaint.

Summary

To the developer: thank you so much.

"Easy, free, fast, exactly as expected"

September 10, 2010  |   By grajedaf

Version: Backuplist+ 7.2.1

Pros

Very intuitive, easy to understand and use interface. Doesn't waste loads of time processing, unlike Time Machine. Restoration of files is as simple as can be, whether it is some files or all

Cons

I like everything about this product. Better than Time Machine in every way.

Summary

Unlike Time Machine, Backuplist quickly determines which files to backup and then executes. It does not waste disk space with superfluous copies. Simply select which files to backup in the program window (selecting from presets or manually selecting files and folders) and click to go. When you are restoring from backups, one click restores all files, or navigating through the backup disk is as easy as going through the original files, as it is organized the same. Oh, and one other thing... it ACTUALLY WORKS, unlike Time Machine, which chooses when to actually perform its intended function (not often, in my experience).

"Amazing"

Pretty easy to use, although it might seem a bit complicated to a basic Mac user. Works perfectly, and is one of the best GUI front ends for rsync that I have tried.

Now if only the author could give this the capability to run invisibly in the background and intercept Finder copies so that it would emulate the behavior of the old Connectix Speed Doubler Copy Agent from Mac OS 9...

I used to run rsync in my terminal window to get my files backed up. I had my accompanying text file with all the strings typed out to quickly copy in paste. Now this utility does rsync for me with a great user interface. I recommend it!

"Seems unreliable"

October 9, 2007  |   By okeanos

Version: Backuplist+ 4.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I finally gave up on this tool after using it for a few months to keep several large folder hierarchies backed up on a second drive. It often seemed to be doing more work than I would have expected given the sometimes very small deltas between source and destination. Files that had not changed would be unexpectedly copied and set to the current date. And after running it the two folder did not always agree on size. So I simply came to not trust it. The configuration for each folder appeared to become corrupted over time, necessitating their deletion and recreation. Finally there was not enough feedback during or after the backup to know what was going on.

After some more testing and evaluation, I purchased Synk Standard last week and have been very happy since.

YMMV

"Give it a try"

September 23, 2006  |   By dsphelps

Version: Backuplist+ 3.4

Summary

The author of this program seems very knowledgable about backing up data and has tried to create an easy to use program. While there seems to be a lot of debate about what a "good" backup consists of, this program seems to try and give you 2 or 3 good options, depending on your needs. Works for me, using Panther.
