"As usual, IE missed the boat..."

September 14, 2012  |   By IAMone19

Version: Speckie 4.6.1

Pros

Fixes Microsoft's oversight...

Cons

Not as good as native tools in Chrome or Firefox

Summary

IE is the only browser available that doesn't include a built-in spell checker. Just another reason I avoid IE for web browsing; the only time I fire up IE is to test my design/development work... It's sad really, when you consider how many mostly-useless features and options IE 9 offers the user, yet no native spell check. Brilliant. Shouldn't we assume that IE is geared toward business like all of Microsoft's software? But I guess there's no need to spell check any work you do in the browser, at least according to Microsoft's thinking.

I'm grateful for Speckie for rectifying Microsoft's omission...

"Speckie is a must"

September 6, 2012  |   By belkenn

Version: Speckie 4.6.1

Pros

Does what it says with no fuss at all. does not put a silly tool bar in explorer. It just sits in the background until needed. Something like this should have been part of I.E from the start.

Cons

None that I have found

Summary

Download Speckie you will not regret doing so. It's the best I. E. add on that I have found.

"Caution File is corrupt"

July 12, 2012  |   By mettabhavana

Version: Speckie 4.0

Pros

There are no pros

Cons

The file tried to load something called Yanto tool bar and when I tried to get out of it, the set up went to a different screen. Not that of the Speckie software. My virus scans both MacAfee and Malware bites flagged it as a corrupted file. So beware.

"Downloaded But Nothing Worked"

July 3, 2012  |   By ElObomo

Version: Speckie 4.0

Pros

Didn't work, so can't comment.

Cons

Downloaded three different times from three different sites - CNET, Softpedia, MajorGeeks - shows it is installed in programs but it never ran in memory, never installed an icon, never worked. Deleted three times.

Summary

Have Windows7, IE9, 4mb ram, never worked. Followed all the instructions but it never worked. How about some answers/hints/tips from Speckie?

Updated on Jul 3, 2012

You have to enable the thing in the Manage Add-ons section of Tools. I enabled it in the pop up when it first installed but that didn't work for some reason.

Works great now - 5 Stars!

Version: Speckie 2.7.5

Pros

finally a spell checker that works in IE9. Iespell hasn't been updated in years. This works with 7 and it also corrects all my online posts like this one catching all my typos.

Cons

It will sometimes not light up a misspelled word and then later will.

Summary

Works, not perfect, best alternative available now.

"Best Free Download Out There!"

October 9, 2011  |   By azsunwoman

Version: Speckie 2.5

Pros

Works with IE9 & Windows 7. Works very well in FB. Have complained I needed this after trying Foxfire (but don't use Foxfire (viruses cost me a laptop). This is what I've been looking for. Highly recommend 4 all. Great, free, simple to use.

Cons

None. Haven't found anything to complain about at all.

Summary

Even if you are a perfect speller or typer, this program will be a dream come true. Office made me spoiled & this is the internet answer to always being correct. Love it!
