Actual Title Buttons

by: CNET staff on June 17, 2009

Actual Title Buttons aims to help users shuffle through their open windows. With a subtle interface and effective results, the only question is whether it actually improves upon Windows' own window management features.

Users may not notice this program immediately since it embeds itself in all open windows along the upper right corner where commands for closing, minimizing, and expanding a window normally hide. This program mimics those icons, but offers several more choices. Holding the cursor over each box easily reveals its function and should soon become intuitive to users after trying them out. While the program features a Users' Manual, we feel all level of computer user should be able to jump into Actual Title Buttons. The program's command buttons allow you to roll up a window (erasing everything but the title bar), adjust the transparency, prioritize windows, minimize, and close. All of the buttons worked quickly and effectively. However, we didn't see them improving most users' experiences with juggling open windows, since their functions aren't that much more radical than what Windows already offers.

The program does come with a more than ample 60-day trial period. If you find yourself constantly frustrated by the limitations of your windows this is a good download, otherwise we would advise users to stick with their original program.

Actual Title Buttons is the window management tool which offers extended window manipulation capabilities by adding new buttons to a window caption. Features include making any window semi-transparent, rolling windows up, minimizing any window to Windows notification area, making any window always-on-top, resizing any window to most appropriate size, placing any window to most appropriate position, changing window's program priority, move any window between monitors in a multi-monitor system, copy to clipboard window contents, and paste clipboard contents to any window. You can add different buttons on title bar to use these features.

What's new in this version: Version 7.5.1 has fixed memory leakage issue in control center and Winamp Library window disappeared after rolling it up.

Actual Transparent Window

by: CNET staff on August 17, 2009

Actual Transparent Window is an intriguing desktop enhancement that renders open windows transparent at the click of a button, making it easier to keep track of multiple windows at once. It can help you monitor downloads while working on another screen, or organize spreadsheets, stock charts, text files, and Web pages. You can use it as a drawing tool to trace images, create overlays, and even make your own new images.

The program is simplicity itself to use. It adds two small buttons to the Windows title bar, one for settings; the other for toggling the transparency on and off. You can exclude certain windows, set different levels of transparency, and even customize settings for different browsers, e-mail clients, or any program in the Windows Task Manager. A "ghosting" feature prevents accidental mouse clicks. You can save the settings for individual windows, too, which saves time with frequently used programs. You can also organize windows hierarchically by making less frequently used windows more transparent.

Having multiple transparent windows open at once may take some getting used to at first, but it's easy to organize them so that they reduce the clutter instead of adding to it. Actual Transparent Window really comes into its own when you need to refer back and forth to a number of documents, files, Web sites, or programs. The program downloads and installs quickly and easily, but it leaves some empty folders behind after uninstalling. Actual Transparent Window is free to try for 60 days with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Actual Transparent Window is an innovative Windows desktop enhancement which allows setting any level of transparency for any particular window on the desktop. With Actual Transparent Window it is easy to organize the simultaneously opened windows. You do not have to minimize and restore windows every time. Actual Transparent Window offers ordering to a fully customizable transparency levels that are saved individually for each window. Features include individual transparency rate, inactive window transparency, apply transparency effect while window is moved or is resized, toggle transparency or opaque window state by double click on title bar, and make transparency button.

What's new in this version: Version 7.5.1 has fixed memory leakage issue in control center.

Actual Window Manager

5.0 stars

"A MUST HAVE tool"

December 20, 2011  |   By cosstecuk

Version: Actual Window Manager 6.7.2

Pros

Actual Windows Manager is one of those tools that are first to be installed on a new PC. It is without doubt, one of the most valuable tools I use on my PC.

Cons

Need to create custom setting from window quicker.

Summary

Here are just some of the ways Actual Windows Manager enhances my computing experience:
i. The ability to quickly keep a window on-top of others, very useful when you want to use Notepad as a desktop post-it.
ii. Keeping important windows e.g. Workrave timer not just permanently on-top, but small and neat by removing unnecessary Window borders and buttons.
iii. With my dual monitor setup, switching a Window from one monitor to another at the click of a button... including maximised windows. For Restored Windows, you can either 'Keep the aspect ratio' or 'Fit to target monitor'.
iv. Also for dual monitors, intelligent 'Dual Taskbars'... nice!
v. Roll up windows when you need them maximised but don't want to go hunting for them in the Taskbar or System tray
vi. Plus, Actual Windows Manager is the only application that finds windows that have gone off screen and move them back on-screen.
Actual Windows Manager is worth every penny, and once you start using it, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Actual Window Rollup

1.0 stars

"Junk, not worth the headache."

May 28, 2009  |   By mentilreq

Version: Actual Window Rollup 5.3

Pros

The program itself worked very well, installation was straight forward, and it did what it was supposed to.

Cons

After deciding to go with another program (winroll 2.0) which is completely free, I uninstalled Actual Window Rollup which asked me to reboot to complete installation. As soon as I clicked "Reboot" my computer crashed.

Summary

Works as long as you don't uninstall it, not sure that it's worth what they are asking especially if there are free versions out there that do the job just as well without crashing your computer.
