Users with a Mac computer and several mobile Apple devices may want a way to track them from their Mac. iBackup Viewer for Mac is a simple application used to monitor information on an iPhone or iPod.

iBackup Viewer for Mac is available as a free application, but does have a button that solicits donations to the developer. Fortunately, there were no unexpected problems associated with download and installation. The program did not have any instruction or tutorials, but its menu was easy to interpret without them. At startup, the computer does not require any additional configuration and simply loads data already on the computer for viewing. There are easy-to-identify tabs for contacts, calls, notes, apps, photos, and the Internet. Clicking each brings up an addition menu with relevant information. For example, the Internet tab lists Web sites viewed, and the photo area shows all photos taken on the device. A drop-down menu also makes it easy to switch between additional iPhones or iPods, if you have more than one you want to track. During testing, it appeared as though this data comes from synching the devices to iTunes, and only displays the information from when the device's last plug-in occurred.

Easy to use and with few additional functions over the iTunes system, iBackup Viewer for Mac does succeed in placing device backup information in an easy-to-navigate program.

From iMacTools:

iBackup Viewer manages to browse iphone backups of contacts, call history, sms messages and Apps' data. It's easy to extract information from iphone backup databases. Save contacts to Mac Address Book, and export messages into well formatted text file. Sync web URL bookmarks to desktop Safari. iBackup Viewer automatically loads and analyzes iphone backup databases to convert to readable forms.

What's new in this version:

Escape Medical Viewer

"Worked for me"

September 22, 2012  |   By pondurenga

Version: Escape Medical Viewer 4.2.1

Pros

The MRI folks gave me a DVD to give to my Dr. I stuck it in my old Mac Pro, downloaded Escape Med Viewer and was able to see everything. There was almost nothing to learn, it did most everything for me right away.

Cons

Since I had no idea what I was doing, I didn't ask a lot of the software. Perhaps a medical pro would see it differently.

Version: Escape Medical Viewer 3.1.8

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used EMV since v. 2. Version 3.1.8 is a continued improvement over a consistently good product. As a cardiologist, my primary use is viewing sequences of images such as echo or coronary angiograms. EMV does both exceedingly well, and quite effortlessly. Via preferences it will automatically open and play when the CD is inserted into the drive. Alternatively, what I typically do is copy the DICOMDIR and image files from the CD to a folder on an external hard drive attached to my Mac where I house all my patient images. I then direct EMV to open them from there.

Most importantly, EMV will scrub the DICOM images of identifying data and convert them to other file formats which can then be easily incorporated into Powerpoint or Keynote presentations. These single frame images or entire movies are very high quality and project well. Additionally, although you can sequentially project movie sequences via any viewer, the ability to open an entire series exported in Quicktime and play them side-by-side (say, the before and after shots of a stented segment of a coronary artery) is invaluable at cath or M&M conference.

I have found over the years that this product is worth the cost and has been very stable. Finally, you get personal emails from the developer if you have questions or problems.

Version: Escape Medical Viewer 3.0.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I had to try this out and compare Escape Medical Viewer ($295) to the current "gold standard" for Mac based DICOM imaging - OsiriX (free/Opensource). I really did want to see Greek software making it, but must say i'm disappointed.

EMV has only a subset of feaures that OsiriX has - as far as i can see it has standard image controls (brightnes, contrast etc) and ROI tools, as well as simple measurements (lenghth, angle) and annotations. OsiriX feature set for 2D vieweing is much richer (eg excellent CLUT control), in a addition to 3D features.

More importantly, i was not able to satisfactorily run EMV. I tried to load a cardiac ultrasound (Echo) and it took an astounding 20 minutes to load. However, whenever i try to look at a sequence, it seems to try to re-import all sequences from the beginning in a kind of endless loop. In short this is not usable.

OsiriX opened the same data set within 2-3 seconds, and all sequences without a problem.

Given the superior feature set of OsiriX and the fact that at least for my uses (cardiology) EMV is useless, and not in the least the £295 price tag, my advice is to steer clear of this software

"Works, but hard to configure"

June 27, 2011  |   By jay_cowan

Version: Vine Viewer 3.1

Pros

When it works, it works well.

Cons

But trying to configure it to mount my brother's desktop 300 miles away when he is accessing the internet over a mobile broadband link...aaugh.

Summary

Works well, but needs a lot better tutorial and examples of where to find the correct information on the server side to enter into my client. Setup is a bear at times.

"Best VNC Client Ever"

November 14, 2007  |   By Alien Implant

Version: Vine Viewer 1.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I wish I had not waited so long to try/buy this VNC client. With Vine Server (I haven't tested it any other way, since Vine Server is my number one free VNC server for OSX), this is by far the fastest remote client I have ever used, including SpyMe (slower and much less stable). I am thrilled with the performance of the Vine combo. For me, nothing has come close. It's very near real time performance when set to Thousands of Colors, which is plenty good enough resolution for me on a remote machine.

My deep thanks to the developers for the hotrod of OSX VNC clients.

Version: Vine Viewer 1.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The little touches are what set this apart and the support on the forums is very responsive and helpful. The upgrade from Chicken of the VNC was worth it just to have the ability to scale the server desktop. Make connecting to a desktop with a big screen from a MacBook much easier.

Also, it is currently on sale for 24.95 for December.

Now, if they would just get rid of the brushed metal...

"The best Mac VNC viewer"

November 6, 2006  |   By artful38

Version: Vine Viewer 1.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've given Vine Viewer a try and it is definitely the best Mac VNC viewer out there. I really like how its developers have gone and added a few "extra" features to the standard VNC. None of these are revolutionary (Timbuktu's had 'em all for years) but it is great that a Mac VNC viewer can finally record movies and exchange clipboard data. The price is right also, especially if all you need is basic remote control.

To be fair I should mention the downsides of Vine also. It is still rather complicated to use (fine if you are a Mac geek, but an average user would be lost), and it is not as reliable as commercial products like Timbuktu or ARD (I had Vine viewer crash twice in a single morning of testing). And its full functionality requires the rather complicated set-up of the separate server.

Still, overall, if you are a Mac geek and you already use VNC, this is definitely the VNC viewer of choice as a Mac user, especially for situations where ARD or Timbuktu would be overkill.

STDU Viewer Portable

by: CNET staff on April 11, 2012

Most of us are used to opening PDF files with a special viewer, be it Acrobat Reader or something else. But what happens when you have other files that require special viewers? Are you supposed to just keep cluttering up your hard drive with new programs? STDU Viewer Portable is a document viewer that can handle not only PDF files, but a variety of other common and uncommon file types.

STDU Viewer Portable looks just like many other document viewers, with a set of menus across the top and a toolbar just below. We were impressed with the number of different file types that STDU Viewer Portable can handle; in addition to PDF files, the program can also open DjVu, TIFF, XPS, Comic Book Archive, text, image, FB2, JBIG2, PalmDoc, WWF, and PCX files. We liked that the program can display multiple files at once in its tabbed interface. You can also export files in a variety of text or image formats, making it easy to share files that are in formats that can't be opened by friends or colleagues. There's no Help file, so if you don't already know about some of the more-obscure file types that STDU Viewer Portable supports, you'll have to look elsewhere for more information. But for people who know what they're doing -- namely, trying to open a variety of different file types without using a variety of different programs -- STDU Viewer Portable is a great choice. The fact that it can be stored on a USB drive or other portable device makes it even better.

STDU Viewer Portable comes as a ZIP file and is accessible after extraction with no need for installation.

STDU Viewer Portable is a document viewer for multiple file formats. The goal of this software is to replace the multiple document viewers with a single simple application. STDU Viewer supports following document formats: DjVu, TIFF, and PDF. For documents that support content, STDU Viewer gives the possibility to show the content for quick jumping from one section to another.

What's new in this version: Version 1.6.205 has added Germans language, fixed bug with password protected PDF files and problems with "frozen" scrolling in some files.

MDB Viewer Plus

by: CNET staff on April 19, 2011

It's hard to access Access files without access to Access, Microsoft's popular relational database management system. If you need to open Access database files, try Alex Nolan's MDB Viewer Plus. It's a free tool that not only displays Microsoft Access MDB files and the newer Accdb files via the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) in Windows but also lets users open, view, edit, search, sort, import, and export Access files without an Access license or an installed copy of Access.

MDB Viewer Plus is portable freeware that runs as soon as you click the program file, which makes it a handy addition to your portable toolkit. The program's toolbar is well stocked with icons for searching for supported files as well as searching within them, not to mention displaying table info, importing and exporting data, creating and removing child fields, and other functions. It didn't take the program long to locate the few Access files stored locally on our system and display them in its main list view, but we were impressed with MDB Viewer's extensive and powerful search options nonetheless. In fact, MDB Viewer's most versatile feature is its search function, or functions, since it sports two Search icons, one for searching values and another for multiple word searches, not to mention the Query and Table Info tools, which have their own interfaces. We could save and export into text, rich text, PDF, Excel, Works, Foxpro, XML, HTML, and CSV formats. MDB Viewer also imports files in text, Word, clipboard, Excel, Lotus 1-2-3, QuattroPro, SPSS, Paradox, Dbase, and ADO database formats and Advantage, DBISAM, and Clarion table files as well as Access, XML, HTML, Windows Address Book, and VCalendar Data files. Wizards make importing and exporting all these file types easy.

MDB Viewer Plus certainly lives up to its name as well as its promise. It not only displays Access files without having Access installed, but it also offers considerable searching, editing, and modifying capabilities. As its developer notes, it's not an Access alternative or a standalone database solution--yet. It's on its way, though. For users who need to view or edit Access files, it's a great choice.

window.addEvent('domready', function() { $$('div[id^="universalVideo"]').set('styles', { clear: 'none', overflow: 'hidden' }); });

MDB Viewer Plus is a freeware viewer and editor for Microsoft Access MDB and Accdb database files. It does not require an install to run provided that Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is installed on your PC (In most versions of Windows this is the case). MDB Viewer Plus has been written to provide a free, quick and easy way to view, edit, filter, sort, and search MDB files without having Microsoft Access installed. This is useful if you need to look at an MDB or Accdb file but do not have Microsoft Access installed on your PC. It is not yet a full database development solution but does allow you to view MDB or Accdb files without an Access license.
