Delcam CRISPIN announced the 2013 versions of its ShoeMaker concept design for the footwear industry. Delcam CRISPIN is the world’s largest supplier of CADCAM software to the footwear industry and is the only supplier able to provide a complete solution for the design and manufacture of lasts, uppers and soles.

hoeMaker is the product of choice for 3D conceptual footwear design and is the only solution to combine the design and modelling of uppers and soles within the same 3D environment. The software helps users to produce realistic 3D footwear models for design and marketing reviews, whilst reducing the number of samples produced, improving communications between the design and manufacturing teams, and reducing overall product time to market. With any required design iterations easily made, the approved design model and flattened patterns are ready for engineering.

New functionality for ShoeMaker 2013 includes user-defined flattening for Offset Concept Lasts (OCL), improvements to the last import with automatic detection of the centre lines, and better control for the positioning of image stencils, including a three-point alignment tool. There is a new Flattening Parameter File editing tool for adjusting specific aspects of the flattened formes, plus some additional fine controls to change the shape of the flattening.

A special tool has been added to change the appearance of the design model to display a ‘relaxed look’ as if the last has been physically removed from the shoe. Finally, a new pattern assessment tool for pre-costing of the pattern pieces has been added.

Delcam's History

In 1965 Donald Welbourn, Director in Industrial Co-operation at Cambridge University, had the vision to see the possibility of using computers to assist pattern makers to solve the problems of modeling difficult 3D shapes.

Today we take for granted 3D modeling, in 1965 only crude 2D drawing systems were available using terminals linked to large main frame computers.

Initial work was sponsored by the Science Research Council but finding money to support the development was a constant problem for Donald Welbourn. In 1973 Donald persuaded his friend Lord Caldecote, then chairman of the Delta Metal Group and an ex-Cambridge engineer, to send Delta graduate engineer Ed Lambourne to work on the development of DUCT at Cambridge University Engineering Department, ultimately leading to transferal of the system into industry. In 1974 Donald also obtained sponsorship from Control Data in Europe in the form of access to their powerful time-sharing computing resources. Control Data offered DUCT initially on its time-sharing bureau service, especially to two of its largest German customers Volkswagen and Daimler Benz.....

The process of producing or modifying a last is extremely simple. Even inexperienced users can work with confidence after only a few hours of training. LastMaker produces last models much faster than is possible by hand, allowing you to get the digital data to your last manufacturer quicker, ensuring a faster turnaround time.
All modifications to the last are based on accurate measurements of the foot. Model size or graded last data can be output for on-site machining, or sent to your last manufacturer digitally. Scanned foot data imported as a template can be used to modify existing conventional or fashion lasts. The data can be ouput for machining a custom-made pair of lasts.

Simple-to-use, and easy to learn, ShoeCost produces a quick accurate costing for your footwear sample and production footwear. Parallelogram, SLM and Collective leather material assessments with user defined coefficients provide the cost or an average skin size, whilst synthetic material layouts provide actual costs for sheet and roll material usage. Components can also be added to provide a detailed Bill of Materials. Labour and Overhead costs can also be added to produce a total footwear costing.

Delcam CRISPIN ShoeMaker is a very easy to use 3D solution for designing all styles of footwear. ShoeMaker integrates the 3D last, upper and sole in a single environment. ShoeMaker features include 3D stencil wrapping, style line sketching, one-click piece creation, material textures, thickness and padding, automatically positioned laces, accessory libraries, 3D sole design and image rendering. ShoeMaker replaces Delcam CRISPIN ShoeDesign as the product of choice for 3D footwear design.

TechPac is an extermely easy to use documentation solution for producing Technical Packages for footwear manufacturing operations and assembly sequences. A series of diagrams can be created to provide a pre-lasting assembly guideline for the factory operator.

Each diagram can provide technical detailing about the upper component, the type of machine to use and the operation sequence using tables, text and images. Technical legends can also be inserted to describe the details of a skiving or closing operation. HTML or PDF reports can be produced for the complete technical packge, by department or individual operation. There is also additional functionality to assess and calculate the visible material areas of a shoe.
