Based on OS X's Finder app, Path Finder for Mac brings the same functionality as well as a ton of other handy features that are not limited to file management. There are also command line and compression utilities, a text editor, and many hooks into other products like Google, TeamViewer, and the Mail app.

Powerful main screen: Path Finder for Mac's main screen packs a lot of features, including an integrated info pane and handy shortcuts to places on the Mac and the network. There are even optional sliding panes on each side of the window that allow access to recent documents, folders, and apps.

Side-by-side view: You can view two different folders at the same time in the same window. With such a powerful option, dragging and dropping becomes a snap.

Ability to read, analyze, and edit files: In addition to the features you would expect a file explorer to have, Path Finder for Mac also comes with a text editor, a terminal utility, an archival tool, and a comparison tool, all of which work well and are fairly easy to use.

Potentially dangerous: The software deals with vital OS features and exposes you to options like hiding the Finder app and the Trashcan. If disabled by accident, it may pose a serious usability issue.

No tags support: The app still deals with Labels and has not yet adopted Mavericks' tagging system.

Path Finder for Mac targets people who are not afraid to experiment in order to streamline their workflows. This app is so full of features that a quick 5-minute look won't do it justice. The more you tinker with it, the more options you'll find, which may either delight or confuse you, depending on how much of a geek you are.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Path Finder for Mac 6.5.3.

"New Version Doesn't Work on MacBook Air"

December 12, 2013   |   By brianprice6

Version: Path Finder 6.4.5

Pros

If I could get it to work I might be able to publish something positive about the product....

Cons

This had difficult installing, then would not work once installed. i checked out their tech support and there appears to be an issue with this product installing correctly on some MacBook Air machines. The developers have not been able to resolve this over the month or so they've known about it....so may not be the best time to be trying to trail this software.

Summary

Try to install - if it doesn't work uninstall and wait a few months until they get this problem resolved. No sense wasting your time on someone else's problem.....meanwhile I will look for a product that actually works on my machine.

"Does not clean up quick menu after uninstalling"

November 21, 2011   |   By NayanBheda

Version: Path Finder 5.7.8

Pros

Tried trial and found it ok

Cons

I uninstalled Pathfinder thru various uninstallers. However, whenever I right click on any folder, I get option of "Show Info"and "Reveal". On clicking any of these options, I get error message saying that associated application is missing.

How do I remove these links?
I don't want to install Pathfinder again

"Zero confidence"

November 09, 2011   |   By Rumboogy

Version: Path Finder 5.7.8

Pros

I have been trying out Path Finder 5.7.8 for about a week. In general it seems like a good power-user tool.

Cons

But I lost confidence in it today when I tried to copy a 150 GB folder to a USB drive. The progress bar indicted that the copy was 300 GB and when I looked in the destination folder the directory structure was getting scrambled. Files and folders where in the wrong locations.

Summary

Because Path Finder screwed up something so simple (folder copy) I have lost faith in this tool. This makes one think that it could do serious damage to your data. I will be uninstalling it.

"Nice tool for a windows convert, but too expensive."

January 10, 2011   |   By BtBrim611

Version: Path Finder 5.7.2

Pros

intuitive, and able work and move files much more intuitively than Finder. Pathfinder is smoother and allows me to clean trash files from thumb drives, copy and move with a single window and much more.

Cons

$40 is a ridiculous price for this 'app', even if the guy who created it lives in California.

Summary

Works very well but priced twice its value. I'd pay $20, but won't pay $40.

"It's allright"

January 05, 2011   |   By gurnx

Version: Path Finder 5.7.2

Pros

Seems like every OS needs an aftermarket dual-pane tabbed file manager interface. This is the 'big gun' for the Mac OS.

Cons

If you're offline you won't be able to view help videos. If you're a windows convert and were using xplorer2 this is the closest thing you'll find on the mac.

To the developer: please rename! 'path finder' is too generic. Maybe 'PathFinderMac'?

November 14, 2010   |   By jodieth

Cons

I haven't really found any cons. I consider myself an intermediate on my mac.
There is still so much to learn.

"I no longer use Finder"

November 13, 2010   |   By jsovey

Version: Path Finder 5.7

Pros

Many features and new efficient ways to work. get things done easier. Tabbed windows mean no need for many finder windows opened and scattered. Very customizable. Just packed with Features

Cons

Used it for a few days now and have only seen benefits

Summary

If there is anything you wanted to do with finder but couldn't, even things you didn't know you needed, Path Finder is the way to do it. I was reserved at first to replace finder but soon realized its just like finder only + more. Well worth it. Why is no major operating system offering tabbed file browsers?

November 08, 2010   |   By teddchilless

Version: Path Finder 5.7

Pros

Everyone should be using it to manage your files. I move from three PC's to MacBook Pro. I had duplicate files and I was lost until I found Pathfinder. It has been so easy to use.

Cons

A few more videos would be helpful learning all the features.

"Really awesome program for the power user"

October 23, 2010   |   By OJB

Version: Path Finder 5.6.8

Pros

Lots of useful features, tabbed interface, many developer/technical functions, stable, easy to use.

Cons

A few features not so well implemented so that I still use the Finder as well.

Summary

I use Path Finder as my main file browsing program instead of the Finder. I like the tabbed interface which makes it easy to have lots of locations open simultaneously. I also like the many features which are useful to power users or programmers which the Finder doesn't have. It is very stable and just as fast as the Finder for most operations. Recommended for all Mac power users!

ES Picture Finder

From Everlast Software:

The ES Picture Finder performs a deep search all the local disks on a computer for pictures and images. It will help find lost and hidden pictures in a friendly manner. The results are returned and categorized by year, month, and day in order to help narrow in on when the files were created. There are a few main ways in which pictures are typically lost: Poorly named files, files saved in the wrong directory, and missing file extensions on the files. The ES Picture Finder will handle all of these cases by allowing the user to see small previews (thumbnails) of the pictures, regardless of where they are or what they're named. Once the lost pictures are found, they can easily be recovered and copied elsewhere. The demo version will allow you to find the pictures but not restore them. Once you have identified the pictures, you can purchase a license to register the demo version and restore your missing/lost pictures.

"The trial version doesn't work as advertised."

December 7, 2010  |   By Hummdis

Version: Adobe Product Key Finder 1.5.1

Pros

It installs successfully. That's about it.

Cons

The trial version is supposed to allow you to obtain, but not print they keys and it doesn't even do that. So why would anybody pay even $1.00 if the trial doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

Summary

Not worth the effort. Don't bother.

"Not free to try"

August 4, 2010  |   By maggiecme

Version: Adobe Product Key Finder 1.4

Pros

Quick download

Cons

They claim you can use it free but you can not. You can download it for free but you can not actual see the keys without paying the fee. Of course there are no positive reviews to state that this works after you pay so it's really a scam.

Summary

Useless unless you are willing to pay for potentially bad data. There is a reason that it has a high download and low review.

A Better Finder Rename 9.03

A Better Finder Rename 9.03 | Mac Os X | 6.7 MB
Building the ultimate file renamer takes time. That's why ever since 1996, we have made it our business to listen to our customers. A Better Finder Rename has long been the file renamer of choice for tens of thousands of professionals, businesses and hobbyists across the world, but that hasn't stopped us from continuing to perfect our product culminating now in the brand-new version 9.

New In Version 9
Refined single window user interface
Drag & drop manual ordering for sequence numbers
Tag-based renaming actions
Support for over 100 image, photo, camera, lens, music and other meta-data tags

Stunningly simple..
The user interface is designed from ground up to support even the most complex renaming tasks without sacrificing ease and speed of use. Simply drag the files you want to rename straight from the Finder into the large preview table.. or the application icon.. or use our Finder context menu and hot key.

Our Instant Preview feature eliminates guesswork and costly errors and helps you find the right settings quickly and accurately by providing as-you-type feedback.

Yet devastatingly effective
A Better Finder Rename's huge array of renaming options are organized into 15 intuitive categories that cover all the text, character, position, conversion and truncation features that you would expect from a great file renamer. On top of this, A Better Finder Rename provides more advanced features that answer the prayers of many professionals and hobbyists alike.

Photographers in particular will find the advanced sequence number and date & time features a joy to behold. A Better Finder Rename knows how to extract EXIF shooting date and time information from your digital camera images and exploit them in creating sequence numbers or adding time and date information to the file name. Support for all major RAW formats (including JPEG, CRW, CR2, THM, NEF, TIFF, RAJ, ORF , MRW, DNG, PEF, SRF, etc.) extends this to professional photographers. A Better Finder Rename also deals gracefully with multiple shots captured in the same second.

Version 9 adds powerful tag-based renaming allowing access to image, color, camera, lens and other meta-data. In addition it is now possible to manually reorder sequence numbers directly by dragging and dropping files in the preview.

System administrators, web masters and other power users will appreciate the presence of advanced features, such as regular expression support, conversion to Windows NTFS/SMB compatible names, the ability to import file names from a database, a spreadsheet or any other source that can produce plain or tab-delimited text files. Finally, it allows you to save a record of the current and new file names to facilitate tracking your files.

Music lovers will be delighted by our MP3/AAC renaming feature that allows you to exploit the ID3 meta-data embedded in most music files to create their own naming schemes for their music collection. Meta-data information from MP3, AAC, FLAC, OGG, APE, M4V and iTunes music store files are supported.

Sometimes, however, a single renaming step is just not enough. Enter the multi-step renaming feature, that let's you combine and re-arrange multiple renaming steps into a single operation.

For recurring tasks, A Better Finder Rename allows you to save common settings to droplet mini-applications and apply them automatically to all files dropped upon them. Version 9 adds support for saving and loading presets to facilitate the creation of your own renaming library.

Beautiful inside & out
A Better Finder Rename takes file renaming to a new level of sophistication by introducing an advanced 64-bit multi-threaded renaming engine that solves many problems that other file renamers simply leave unaddressed. The database-backed renaming engine automatically resolves file name conflicts (when several files would share the same name) using a range of configurable parameters. The sequence in which files are renamed is optimized to avoid deadlocks which could occur when the order in which the files are renamed becomes significant.

A Better Finder Attributes 5.13

A Better Finder Attributes 5.13 | MacOSX | 5.6 MB
A Better Finder Attributes 5 is the ultimate file tweaking tool for Mac OS X. A Better Finder Attributes 5 combines photo shooting date and file date changing along with a few unique tricks of its own. A Better Finder Attributes 5 allows you to manipulate JPEG, CR2, CRW & CIFF EXIF timestamps at will by setting them to specific times or batch adjusting them by adding and removing time (useful for correcting the timestamps of images taken with a digital camera with a incorrectly set clock and to compensate for timezone changes).

Correct Finder Sorting for JPEG EXIF and RAW Photo
A Better Finder Attributes 5 also allows to synchronize the file creation and modification dates with the shooting dates of JPEG EXIF as well as a wide variety of RAW formats, so that files sort properly in the Finder and other systems.

Total File and Folder Creation and Modification Date Control
A Better Finder Attributes 5 gives you total control over file creation and modification dates, setting them to specific times and dates, adding or removing time or simply removing them altogether.

More File Magic

On top of these features, A Better Finder Attributes 5 gives you control over:
- whether or not file extensions appear in the Finder
- batch locking or unlocking of files
- setting or removing legacy creator & type codes
- removing invisible files
- seeing invisible files in the Finder
- batch setting of Finder labels
- forcing the Finder to update its information about files and folders

A Better Finder Attributes 5 features an elegant and intuitive interface with many advanced features. Simply drag & drop the files you want to change into the file list, select an action from the popup menu and modify the settings to your liking, then click on "Perform Changes".

Automate with Droplets
A Better Finder Attributes 5 allows you to save frequently used settings to separate "droplet" applications. Drag & drop files onto the droplet application to apply the changes stored in it. Double click the droplet to edit the stored settings.

Other Noteworthy Features
- batch operation
- drag & drop into the file list or onto the application icon
- select files in the Finder and activate A Better Finder Attributes 5 via the Finder context menu or via a hot key
- automatically deals with file date consistency rules
- separate processing for files and folders, batch processing of sub-folders

Mac OS X Limitations on File Dates
Please note that Mac OS X imposes a number of "common sense" rules when it comes to file dates and will not allow you to set dates to "invalid" values.

In particular, you cannot set the dates to future values (i.e. later than now) and files cannot be modified before they are created. A Better Finder Attributes 5 can automatically take care of these complications for you via the "automatically correct inconsistent dates" feature.

Also note that while File Multi Tool will let you set dates before 1972, the Mac OS X Finder does not "like" such dates and as soon as you point the Finder to such a file, it will "correct" this date to the 1st of January 1972.
