"Does what is asked & supposed to!"

May 30, 2011  |   By DaDreamWizard

Version: DesktopOK (64-bit) 2.55

Pros

Positions your desktop Icons where you want, period. You set the standards, not Microsoft, not tradition, just you. Saves your layout, or multiple layouts at whatever resolution you use.

Cons

Haven't found any.

Summary

There are two apps that perform this task that are 64bit. This is one of them. I don't rate one over the other, but at the current rate, and the attention this author is giving to DesktopOK, it will most likely 'pass' the other app in functionality. It offers everything & more at a size that is smaller then it's closest competitor in both 32 & 64bit versions.

That all by itself is a major feat of programming in today's over-sized apps. And it's 64bit version put no apparent 'byte' on the system or it's performance.

If your icons seem to drift, this is for you. If you want them to vanish and look at an open and clear desktop without the congestion but need those icons to be there when you want them, then this is more for you then you will ever know.

Try it. If you don't like it, delete it. No registry entries and mess to deal with. It's just to handy not to have. If you don't use it today, tomorrow's another day.

Try it, there's nothing not to like.

"Simple solution that should be built in"

April 24, 2011  |   By wifal

Version: DesktopOK (64-bit) 2.41

Pros

Simple, no need to "install," flexible, intuitive, 32- and 64-bit versions

Cons

.ini file it builds is not hidden (might be a pro for some)

Summary

I've had none of the problems that a few others have noted; I use this on 3 desktops and 4 laptops, and it works flawlessly on all of them.

"A quick solution to an aggravating problem"

April 16, 2011  |   By ibwaldo

Version: DesktopOK (64-bit) 2.41

Pros

DesktopOK realigns icon placement for what ever screen you're using. I use my laptop exclusively at my office I dock it to a USB hub and a 24" Samsung LCD. With a couple of mouse clicks I have the desktop icons where I want then for either screen.

Cons

The text file with your saved desktop information opens when my computer starts along with the DesktopOK selection menu.

Summary

It works, and saves a lot of time re-arranging your desktop icons every time you change monitors

"Doesn't work and can't get it off my laptop."

March 23, 2011  |   By Tracie365

Version: DesktopOK (64-bit) 2.37

Pros

None, right now.

Cons

Doesn't work and can't get the 64-bit version removed from my laptop.

Summary

Installed 64-bit version on my Toshiba laptop that comes with both 32 & 64-bit options for use. I installed it twice, it doesn't work, but now I can't remove the programs!!! I usually run on 32-bit, so I thought maybe I needed to try installing the version that doesn't say "64-bit version". It still installs as the 64-bit....which doesn't function. Now I have multiple copies of this on my laptop and can't remove ANY of them! VERY ANNOYED.

"Works Well, Saves Headaches"

March 24, 2013  |   By richpasma

Version: DesktopOK 3.51

Pros

Easy to use. Just a couple of clicks to save or update desktop icon locations.

Several options for saving desktops, by name, by resolution, and how many copies.

Several autosave options, by time, shutdown, & startup.

Icon hider function is nice. Activate it and your desktop icons are hidden until you do a mouse click. After the time period you select, 1 to 60 seconds they are hidden again.

Mouse cursor hider works like the icon, only it activates once you move the mouse.

There is a little more, but this is all I have used.

Cons

None with the software.

As with any freeware, carefully study your download options before making a slection or you will find new toolbars and/or adware. If you do find ads poping up with your browser after downloading something, it can almost always be eliminated by going to manage add-ins and disabling items you do not want.

"ADWARE, DO NOT DOWNLOAD"

March 17, 2013  |   By TheWyrm

Version: DesktopOK 3.45

Pros

Functions, maybe?

Cons

It installs in German. There are no language options.
Installs toolbar, changes your homepage, installs chrome extension that pops up an ad every time you start chrome.

Summary

This might have once been a good program but now it's adware.

"Does just what it says it will, and does it well"

December 27, 2012  |   By rdodds_jr

Version: DesktopOK 3.41

Pros

- Small footprint
- Ability to scramble your icons to then test that the restore function is working
- Can store multiple desktop arrangements

Cons

No cons that I have found so far.

Summary

I was having terrible problems with my desktop being scrambled when I would RDC in from various locations at work that had projectors with screen resolutions different from the resolution on my office computer. I was constantly having to rebuild my desktop arrangement, which was a waste of time.

With the product, I arranged my icons once, saved the arrangement, and now recreating my icon placement is a click or two. If I install a new product or change the pattern in any way, it takes only a couple of clicks to update DesktopOK to memorize the new arrangement.

Excellent product! (I am using it on Windows 7 64-bit)

"With Multiple Screen Displays GOTTA HAVE THIS!"

November 3, 2012  |   By Earth_Dweller

Version: DesktopOK 3.37

Pros

I have 3 screens in front of me. I have my icons organized and have a visual memory as to where to find my selected icon when needed. For multiple reasons, like turning off my monitors to save energy, my icons get jumbled. NOW I can recover them. Also there is a feature that will HIDE you icons from view, until you simply click anywhere on an empty space on a screen. You may set the icons to stay on for up to 1 min or as short as 10 seconds then disappear again. You may turn this feature on or off. This program has great practicality.

Cons

When I first downloaded the program it was in German (Deutsche) There is a small little "flag icon" in the bottom left hand corner. Click on it and choose English to use this program in English.

Summary

Great Program, if you have a lot of Icons on your desktop, that you want in some order other than alphabetical. If your icons get scrambled up due to a power outage or you have turned your monitors off and and multiple monitors, it will save you hours over a years time.

"Works well, even with 64-bit Windows 7"

September 6, 2012  |   By dr_jon

Version: DesktopOK 3.36

Pros

Very simple to use, it's a stand-alone program and makes a .ini file (in the same directory as the program) the first time you run it. (Hence it's better not to put the program on your desktop as you'll get the ini file too.)
Stores multiple historical position sets, so if you stuff something up without noticing you can go back further.
Moves new icons that weren't in the saved list if they are covered by another icon on the restore.
I'm currently preferring this to Desktop Restore, which is also good but uses up three slots in the desktop context menu, which is too many for me.

Cons

An option to hooking into a context menu would be nice, but generally I have no complaints so far.

Summary

Excellent free utility, kudos and thanks to the Author.

"Something is wrong with CNET installer for this product"

August 21, 2012  |   By KLMaginnis

Version: DesktopOK 3.33

Pros

Great product but your link doesn't work

Cons

See above comment

Summary

I wonder if anyone will read this. I and other colleagues have used your CNET Installer link many times before to download DesktopOK, but now it gives usan error message and won't download. It appears that something needs fixing ... the Direct Download Link works fine.
