Comodo Dragon

by: Polina Polishchuk on June 17, 2010

Popular security software developer Comodo has developed a Chrome remix said to have higher security features than its predecessors. Comodo Dragon is an aesthetically minimalist browser that is attractive, responsive, and secure.

Apart from the red hue, the Chromium-based browser's interface is identical to that of market contender Google Chrome. From the detachable tabs at the top of the screen to the bookmark-syncing option, it is impossible to instantly recognize where the "remix" takes place. The Help tab even redirects you to Google Chrome's Help page and the Extensions tab redirects you to Google as well. It also keeps Chrome's incognito mode option, where all browsing information and cookies are deleted following the user's Web session. Upon poking around the Options menu, there are a couple of visible differences: there are no location settings and Dragon does not present an option to send "usage statistics and crash reports to Google."

A browser developed by a company that is best known for its firewall software can leave people feeling more secure about their Internet usage. Comodo Dragon will pull up a bright-yellow caution message warning people that sending information may be unsafe when they are entering a Web site with an unstable security certificate. One such message pops up even when logging into large sites like Facebook. Also, Dragon does not send browsing information to a remote server.

Based on simple timer tests run on Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3, the average cold start-up time was 4.53 seconds, warm start-up was 0.92s, and navigation time from nytimes.com to facebook.com was 0.87s. Comodo Dragon proves to have slightly faster page-loading speed than Google Chrome 5.0.375.70, which had results of 5.71s, 1.27s, and 1.23s, respectively. However, in Sunspider JavaScript benchmark testing, Comodo Dragon received an average score of 929.6 milliseconds, whereas Google got 734ms. Based on these results, Google may have faster JavaScript performance than Comodo.

Dragon is not only fast, but like Google Chrome, it is not strewn with numerous icons, leaving more room for Web viewing. For those who are extra cautious about their online security, or for those who are worried about Google's data-mining, this fast browser is a great choice.

window.addEvent('domready', function() { $$('div[id^="universalVideo"]').set('styles', { clear: 'none', overflow: 'hidden' }); });

Comodo Dragon is a versatile technology Browser that offers you all the possible features PLUS the unparalleled level of security and privacy you only get from Comodo. With faster start-up times, rapid graphics rendering and improved page load speed, the latest version of Dragon is full of major performance improvements you'll notice instantly. Dragon provides uninterrupted browsing when there is a crash in the plug-in, just refresh the page. Dragon's window is streamlined, clean, and simple. Its combined search and address bar makes it easy to search and navigate the web, all from one box. It allows an access to an on-line marketplace where you can discover thousands of apps, extensions, and themes for your Dragon. It has improved Privacy, Easy SSL Certificate Identification, and Access to Comodo's own Secured DNS servers, No Usage Tracking, Own built-in Updater, and Elegant Integration with your Windows anti-virus software. Integrated tools from Comodo Dragon allow you to share everything you find on the web with your friends, in multiple Social Platforms. Whichever your preferred social network, Dragon can help you spread the word.

Version: Comodo Dragon 23.1

Pros

Lightning fast. Does everything I want and more.
I went into settings & turned off automatic updates which was what went wrong with Google Chrome & I had to uninstall it. You can't do that with Google as I found out when i tried to do it on my laptop.

Cons

None that I have come across so far

Summary

Easy to download & use. Has some beautiful background themes.
Would reccommend it to anyone

"Better than Chrome, faster than Firefox."

December 10, 2012  |   By jackblanchard

Version: Comodo Dragon 23.1

Pros

Works great. No crashing. No noise with music. Works like Chrome only better.

Cons

None so far.

Summary

The new version of Chrome caused noise like surface noise when I played any music. Just the new version. I work in music and need clean playback to see how my stuff sounds on the web. I tried an older version of Chrome, a new version of Firefox, and also Opera. They each had problems for me. I found Comodo Dragon. It's the best yet.

Version: Comodo Dragon 22.1.1

Pros

+ Very fast working (despite 55+ tabs)
+ No more crash reports
+ Clear interface

Cons

- Only problem is bookmark management. It hasn't got tags, only folders. But it's not worth to say a "problem".

Summary

For those who get tired of crashing flash add-ons, Comodo Dragon is the best.

"Comodo Dragon no install."

October 26, 2012  |   By desertdan1

Version: Comodo Dragon 22.1.1

Pros

Have ran in past is a good browser if if it installs!

Cons

Support not knoledgeable about the installation !

Summary

Had malware remover remove wow_helper.exe file, this prevented installation of Comodo dragon. After contacting dragon support they had absolutely no clue how to fix it? And got quite testy about it? However I had tried installation of three other "chrome" type browsers all of which installed flawlessly !I have found out from other sources that the helper file can be re-installed but have not bothered as I now have no intention of using dragon now! And i must say I have concerns about my Virus protection as well since it is Comodo !

"WELL IMPROVED "COMODO DRAGON" BETTER THAN "CHROME" NOW!"

September 26, 2012  |   By mauron76

Version: Comodo Dragon 21.2.1

Pros

- As fast as Chrome
- Safer than Chrome with DNS function (which can be inactivated though)
- The ugly setting key which stupidly cannot be moved from the right hand-side to the left one of the screen on Chrome looks like a beautiful logo cleverly and logically put on the left hand-side on Comodo Dragon!
- All same gorgeous themes and extensions like on Chrome with easy access to the Chrome Web Store

Cons

Apart that Comodo Dragon versions are always based on a previous but not on an actual Chrome version, I don't see any at the moment...

Summary

Amazing how Comodo improved its browser Dragon in a few versions time! About one year ago I wrote a very severe critic about Comodo Dragon right on this page. I almost shame myself reading the latter now... Well, I did that mainly because of its "paranoid" acting. But it is no more the rule unticking the box "do not track" in my parameters. Besides, I was annoyed by the constant conflicts with the same Chrome extensions and synchronization when I had both Chrome and Dragon active on my laptop. But this problem seems to have been completely solved as I did not experience anymore such annoying bugs. And finally, no more update problems either! If I click on "let Comodo Dragon automatically search for updates" in my settings, I no longer have troubles with updates... So, this proves that Comodo really worked on its browser and made it close to excellent. Hopefully, there will be no more such huge bugs like in the very recent past. I decided to put Comodo Dragon as my default browser for a test hoping that I will not be desappointed again but I still keep Chrome just for security reasons... If no problem happens anymore I will uninstall Chrome and only keep Dragon of course...
