Save2pc Lite

Flash video has taken the Internet by storm, with everything from music videos to clips of kittens riding Roombas. It's no surprise that people frequently want a way to save such videos to their computers. Save2pc Lite is a basic program that allows users to do just that. Although it does work, it's not exactly chock-full of features, and the extra stuff it installs may not be welcomed by all users.

The program's interface is quite plain, consisting of a single screen. Users simply select their destination folder and choose whether they want to save the video as FLV, AVI, or MPG. Enter the video's URL, click start, and Save2pc Lite downloads the file and saves it as specified. Although some other versions of Save2pc allow users to save files in additional formats and to save videos from sites other than YouTube, Save2pc Lite does not, and users should be aware of these limitations. Users should also be aware of what else Save2pc Lite comes with: the Xvid video codec and what appears to be an assortment of related utilities. We weren't impressed that all of this was installed along with Save2pc Lite or that there was no indication of it during the installation process. Save2pc Lite also loses points for not having a Help file. Overall, the program works, but it's definitely not as professionally done as some similar programs we've seen.

Save2pc Lite is free. The program itself uninstalls cleanly, but the Xvid stuff must be uninstalled separately. We recommend this program with reservations.

With Save2pc Light, download videos from YouTube or Google Video and saves them as AVI or Mpeg or FLV files to your local computer. Simply paste the URL of a video into the program, press Start, and the AVI, MPEG, or FLV file will be downloaded. Save2pc allows you to easily grab and save desired YouTube video. The user interface of Save2pc is very simple, so you don't need any technical knowledge to use it. No need to use scripts for Web browsers.

Pros

Well, the ultimate version does download stuff nicely.

Cons

But the funny bit is, as soon as the download bit is done and the conversion bit is about to begin it downloads you a bonus virus, that my previous AV didn't pick up, but luckily now that I have Kaspersky Pure it did pick up the damn trojan. Rip-off!

It was free, and was able to uninstall with a *restore.*

No functionality, it was DOA.

wont download a thing. keeps saying the video address is not valid. Then when you close that it opens a horrible ad window.

"A total piece of crap"

Pros

This is a bait and switch company. They get you to use the "lite" version and try to up sell you to something that actually works. But the upscale software doesn't work as advertised.

Cons

Horrible product. The advertising says that you can "grab" stuff off of Comedy Central.
Its a lie, Some stuff you can get, lots of programs you can't. Tech support is a joke.

Summary

Run don't walk away from this product. Hulu is going to start charging for its content anyway. Use Utorent to download your programs. It's free. It's a stink out loud $40.00 rip off. I feel embarrassed that I bought it...

Cons

Only works for Youtube, Google, Myspace and some porn sites, not normal websites. Try 'Web Video Downloader for Firefox 3.5 Build 70914' instead.

very simple to understand, and one touch recording

Cons

should have someway to copy many links at the same time otherwise u end up copy pasting 10 links each after the first one has been copied. loads of hard work and time consumption if trying to record a 10 part video.
