Intaglio is a traditional Macintosh drawing and illustration application exclusively for Mac OS X. Patterned after the original Macintosh drawing applications, Intaglio is intuitive to beginners and familiar to traditional Macintosh users. It builds on the OS X capabilities involving 2D graphics, text, color, and scripting to provide power and flexibility in an inexpensive drawing program. Intaglio isn't just compatible with Mac OS X, it was designed from the ground up to fully exploit the capabilities that make this platform ideal for graphics work.
Version 2.9.5a runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs and adds several features and enhancements including new pattern tools, slideshows, improved bitmap support, and core image effects.

The tools work very similary to Illustrator, with two types of pointer tool for manipulating objects, layers that can be hidden and locked, snap to grid that can be hidden, rulers with user controlled guides, and much more. This particular version has many bug fixes that caused some crashing, and it now seems quite stable. Many graphic file types can be imported and used for purposes of templating or simply to add to the illustration itself. And with the ability to mask imported graphics with objects, the possiblities are endless.ConsThe only drawbacks to the simplicity of the interface that I have run into occurs with drawing paths. To close a path one is drawing, one has to hold the option key down while clicking on the first end point (or vector), or one can specify that a path is closed on the fill and strock pallete, or one can select the end and start point and use the Join command on the Path sub-menu. I would rather have the pen tool show a path close indicator as is done in Illustrator, but you can't have everything. Nothing else is really irritating about the program.Reply to this review Was this review helpful? (2) (1) You are logged in as .
